Things to do Before Your Wedding Abroad

Just decided on having a destination wedding? Congrats – however, before you do anything, take a quick look through our little guide of things to consider before you start planning your wedding abroad, from choosing the time of year to get hitched to things to consider when you’ve arrived at your destination!

Set your date

The most obvious thing to consider is the time of year that you should get married. Although Mexico and the Caribbean offer tropical climates throughout the year, you’ll want to plan the time of year perfectly, so that your beach wedding backdrop is the perfect ambience that it can be. Mexico enjoys splendid weather from November through to May. Take advantage of the all-year round tropical weather in Mauritius, which is particularly lovely through October to March.

Choose your budget

Think about how much you want to spend on your big day, not forgetting your time abroad too! By setting your budget you can start to think about where you can honeymoon, whether you intend to stay close by or travel further. By opting to have your honeymoon at a local destination, you can save both time and money! Why not go to New York after your Caribbean wedding, or Dubai after your Mauritius wedding?

Notify your guests

Once you’ve decided to go abroad for your wedding, the next step is to let your close family and friends in on the event. By doing this you’ll know exactly who’s up for travelling and who isn’t, from thereon you can begin to piece together invites, plane seat and guest rooms.

Turn your wedding into a pre-holiday

Spend at least 5 days out in on destination before your big day, that way you’ll get to know the area and you can liaise with your wedding concierge to make sure things go smoothly and what you’ve requested goes to plan.

Take time our for some R&R

The beauty of a destination wedding is the sublime beaches, tropical weather and all-round relaxing vibes. Before you big day you can spend some time at the spa, poolside with some cocktails or relaxing on the beach. This is also a brilliant way to get a natural sun kissed look, which will look glowing on your wedding photos.

Food tasting

It’s always a good idea to double check the food that will be on offer at your reception; spend an afternoon sampling your menu.

Iron out the creases

Don’t forget the most important part of your big day, double checking the garments! Make sure your dress, the tux, bridesmaid dresses and any other wedding attire are checked before your bog day. Most resorts will have a wedding concierge that will attend to sewing and pressing services on site.
